Access Fee

What is the Access Fee

A contribution introduced by the City of Venice to manage tourism flows in the Ancient City.

The Venice Access Fee is a contribution that day visitors must pay to enter the historic centre of Venice — the Ancient City — on scheduled peak-tourism days and time windows.

Why the fee exists

The measure protects the fragile balance between residents and visitors, reduces overcrowding at peak moments and helps fund services that keep the city liveable and welcoming.

Who has to pay

  • Day visitors older than 14 who enter the Ancient City on a scheduled day.
  • Visitors who do not stay overnight inside the municipality of Venice.
  • Visitors who are not covered by an exemption category.

When it applies

The Access Fee applies on the calendar days announced by the City of Venice for the current year, between the hours defined in the official calendar. Outside those days and hours, no fee is due.

Where it applies

The regulated area is the Città Antica — the insular historic centre. The islands of the lagoon (Murano, Burano, Torcello, Lido, etc.) are not part of the regulated area.
